A compact courtyard with pool, many overlooking windows, and multiple access points required a legible and elegant solution.
The understated sand-finished concrete with clean sawcut joints for definition adds a sense of modernity while balancing the darker brick and other materials. A classic paving pattern with a more contemporary brick color frames the doorways. It situates the pool comfortably in the geometries of the house.
The front entryway plays off the strong shapes and prominent overhang by framing the path with a simple planting palette and a quarter of apple trees. This combination enhances the spaces airiness, while still grounding it with the tree canopy which will eventually dome over the pathway.
A xeric planting plan in the back will create a full, textured yard space for relaxation and play.
